As lead archivist for the Tana Hoban Papers at the de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection, I took on a partially completed project in Fall 2023 and carried it through to final processing. The collection included, but was not limited to, over 50,000 photographic slides, prints in various formats, negatives—many affected by vinegar syndrome—and undeveloped film, which required a temporary darkroom for viewing. I assessed, sorted, numbered, and preserved materials, and led the digitization of approximately 300 items to enhance access and long-term preservation. The collection also featured original artwork from Hoban's various exhibitions, book production materials such as proofs and layout pages, and handmade dummy books that offered rare insight into her creative process. To promote public engagement, I designed and built a digital exhibit in Omeka, now linked to the official finding aid on the de Grummond website.
This plan was created as a proposal for the Vancleave Live Oak Choctaw tribe. They were in need of file organization, digitization, and backups for their history. I presented this to the council on July 7th, 2025. While I didn't have much information to go on, I tried to make the plan as detailed as possible so the council knew each step of the plan before agreeing to anything.
The plan was accepted on the same date and the processing of the core collection began in mid August of 2025.
In this video, you can see my first bible restoration. My mother was cleaning out a shed when she found a Bible her parents had given her. It was well-used and held together with duct tape. It had been left to the elements for years, and we both had very little hope for it. However, the restoration process turned out to be better than I could have ever hoped for. She loved it, and it set me on my current path!
Looking back, I can see all the things I would have done differently, but it was a learning experience for me!
This photo is part of a larger archival project. The client asked that the photos and documents be digitized and restored to the best of my abilities. While it's an earlier photo, it is still one of my favorites. Here you can see a time-lapse of the corrections.
I was called by a lovely client who wanted to know if I could restore a family heirloom. Her grandmother and mother both had used this cookbook for all major events. The book was almost a pile of pages at this point. In this video, I explain my methods a little and you can to see a beloved cookbook come back to life.
